Why am I so hard

I was thinking the other day why I was so ready to brawl with anyone that treads on my toes. And like most things in my life, I decided I could blame my mother. Its all about our formative years.

My dad always worked very hard so it was my mum who took me to the barbers. This is a fundamental mistake if you want to avoid your son growing up as a psycho.

I used to sit in the barbers on a Friday evening with all the big boys and working men getting ready for their Friday nights out. My mum would take me and insist on telling the barber what kind of cut I would require.

“ Don’t use a razor ” she would always say

“ His hair is far too fine for a razor cut ” she would continue.

I would sit there in the barbers chair, mortified and from the mirror see all the other hard cases smirking at me, winking at each other - all enjoying either the show or my discomfort. Until they bust, exploding in laughter when she would say “ be careful with those scissors his skin is so sensitive. ”
